Torrejón de Ardoz, A City of Festivities, Diversity, and Heritage
With a population of approximately 140,000 inhabitants, Torrejón de Ardoz has evolved from being known for its airbase to becoming an emerging tourist destination. Over the past 17 years, the city has undergone a remarkable transformation, driven by events and iconic spaces that boost commerce and cultural life.
Tourism in Torrejón de Ardoz not only celebrates culture and history but also promotes values of inclusion and respect. Thanks to its diverse entertainment offerings, dedication to diversity, and continuous growth, the city is establishing itself as an attractive destination for everyone.
A Destination Committed to the LGBTQ+ Community
Torrejón de Ardoz has shown a strong commitment to inclusion and diversity. Events such as the SALTA Program, launched on October 11 for National Coming Out Day, and the creation of Rainbow Points during celebrations like the Patron Saint Festivities and Urban Fest, are clear examples of its dedication to visibility and equality. Additionally, the city is part of REDD Red Española de Destinos por la Diversidad, solidifying its status as an inclusive destination open to all.
Mágicas Navidades
One of Torrejón de Ardoz’s biggest tourist attractions is its Mágicas Navidades (Magical Christmas) celebration, an event that has grown to become a national and international benchmark. Its impact was so significant that in 2018, it was recognized by the European Parliament as the European Capital of Christmas, a title it shares with the Belgian city of Liège. Furthermore, Greater Madrid has declared this festivity an Event of Regional Tourist Interest. During the holiday season, the city transforms with dazzling lights, attractions, Christmas markets, and performances that draw thousands of visitors.
Parque Europa
Another major tourist icon of the city is Parque Europa. This green and cultural space features replicas of 19 European monuments, including the Eiffel Tower, Tower Bridge, and the Trevi Fountain, as well as an original fragment of the Berlin Wall, donated by the city of Berlin. Beyond its symbolic value, the park has revitalized an area that was marginalized for over 40 years, turning it into a hub of leisure and social interaction for both locals and tourists.
Festivals and Culture
Torrejón de Ardoz is not just about Christmas. Throughout the year, the city hosts numerous events that showcase its cultural vibrancy. Holy Week, declared an Event of Tourist Interest, along with the Popular and Patron Saint Festivities, Urban Fest, and other festivals, make the city a gathering place for music, tradition, and community spirit. Moreover, the inclusion of LGBTQ+ artists and speakers in these events reinforces its commitment to diversity.
